Threads of Resilience: Kerry's Crochet Journey from Loss to Hope

In the world of crochet, each stitch holds a story, and each crafter carries a unique narrative. Today, we are honored to share a touching story from Kerry Robson-Stevenson. Her journey with crochet is a poignant reminder of the art's power to heal, connect, and transform lives.

Kerry's crochet story is deeply rooted in her cherished childhood memories with her grandmother, a skilled crocheter. "My earliest memory of her is crocheting me a sailor outfit and a matching outfit for my big walking doll," Kerry fondly recalls. This emotional connection with her grandmother through crochet has become a comforting thread, linking past and present, keeping her legacy alive in each loop and yarn twist.

Finding Solace in Stitches Amidst Life’s Storms

In the midst of profound loss, including the passing of her father and two brothers, Kerry discovered comfort and solace in the rhythmic and soothing art of crochet. "Loss and grief have been hard and I push myself and get lost in my crochet," she shares. In the quiet moments of crafting, Kerry found a refuge, a place of peace and meditation where each stitch brought a sense of calm and purpose.

In the face of South Africa's economic instability, Kerry turned her passion for crochet into a beacon of hope for her family. "I had to turn my hobby of crochet into full-time employment," she explains, highlighting the resilience and adaptability that defines her. 'WhyKnot SA' emerged not just as a business but as a symbol of perseverance, a dream woven into existence against all odds.

A Dream for a Brighter Future

Despite the challenges, Kerry's spirit remains unbroken, fueled by dreams of owning a yarn shop and expanding her crochet business. Her upcoming move to the UK, though laden with mixed emotions, shines with potential. "With a heavy heart and lots of tears... I'm looking forward to being reunited with all our family in the UK," she says, her eyes set on a future where her crochet dreams can flourish.

Kerry's story resonates with anyone who has found comfort and strength in their craft. Her battle with peripheral neuropathy, a condition that sometimes hinders her ability to crochet, further underscores her determination. "My crochet is my calm place," Kerry states, reminding us of the therapeutic and healing powers of this art form.

"I must tell you loss and grief have been hard and I push myself and get lost in my crochet. I'm not sure what I would do without it"
