How Crochet Became Doris’s Peaceful Passion

From Belgium, Doris Therssen discovered crochet later in life and quickly fell in love with it. What began as a simple curiosity turned into a joyful passion that now fills her days with creativity and calm. Having taught herself through books and YouTube videos, Doris now spends her retirement crafting adorable dolls, especially for her beloved grandchildren.
Her story is one of patience, discovery, and the quiet happiness that comes from making something beautiful with your own hands.

"Hello, I’m Doris from Belgium.

I learned to crochet from a book and also picked up a lot from YouTube. I’m   now retired and love making dolls for myself and for my grandchildren.

It all started out of curiosity. I found crocheted dolls so adorable and wanted to be able to make them myself. Once I mastered my first stitches, I was completely hooked!

I’ve been crocheting for a few years now. What I love most is how you can turn a simple ball of yarn into something unique, completely made by your own hands. My first projects were small cushions, bracelets, and a bedspread, often made as gifts for family and friends.

I discovered Crochetree through Facebook. The patterns immediately caught my attention, they’re so beautifully designed and perfectly detailed. The Crochetree yarns have gorgeous colors and are a real pleasure to work with, definitely worth trying!

My first Crochetree doll was exciting to make, but the pattern was easy to follow and the result turned out beautifully. I’ve made four dolls so far! My favorite is still the first one,  the Christmas doll, although honestly, I think they’re all beautiful.

I’m proud of every project I’ve put my heart into. Whenever I give something as a gift or share photos, it gives me such a warm feeling — it’s lovely to see others enjoy them too.

One of my favorite memories is when I finished my very first doll and couldn’t stop smiling. The enthusiastic reactions to my photos made it even more special.

My tip for beginners: be patient, enjoy the process, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes — that’s how you learn! Sometimes you just have to pull your work apart and start again until you’re truly happy with it. I love adding my own personal touches, like special color combinations, ribbons, or accessories, to give each doll my unique style.

Crocheting is pure relaxation for me. It helps me unwind and let go of everything. It’s my creative outlet, and, at the same time, something beautiful grows in my hands.

Finally, I would like to thank Crochetree for the beautiful patterns and for giving me the opportunity to share my story.

Your designs bring so much joy, inspiration, and crochet happiness, thank you for making that possible! 💕🧶"
