From Fingerless Gloves to Dream Dolls: Bethany’s Crochet Journey

Bethany Overman’s crochet journey is one filled with curiosity, courage, and creativity. What began as a simple search for the perfect pair of fingerless gloves slowly grew into a lifelong passion that now includes everything from blankets and rugs to amigurumi and handcrafted dolls. When she discovered Crochetree, something clicked: the artistry, the details, and the heart behind each pattern felt like home. Today, Bethany continues to stitch her way through new challenges and joyful creations, finding comfort, confidence, and community along the way. Below, she shares her story in her own words.

I started my crocheting journey about seven years ago, in pursuit of the perfect pair of fingerless gloves. They were far from perfect but they led to blankets, rugs, sweaters, scarves, pants, hats and game boards.

In the last year, I mustered up the courage to try amigurumi and I was (pardon the pun) hooked. After fueling my obsession with hanging plants, anime characters, and crochet food, I stumbled on the most fantastic Facebook ad for the cutest doll I had ever seen and thus my adventure with Crochetree was born.

Fourteen patterns (yes, I got a little excited while shopping on the Crochetree site, I rationalized to my partner that it was an investment for our future) and three completed dolls later, I am just as smitten as I was after seeing the first post for Valentina a few months ago. Was I a bit daunted? Of course! I mean, the detail and craftsmanship that goes into all of the Crochetree creations is amazing and my first thought was this is gonna be above my skill level, but that was luckily not the case. The instructions (with visuals and videos) make even the most complex parts of the patterns easy to follow and the customer support is always friendly, very clear with explanations and most importantly (because as every hooker knows, time is of the essence when it comes to stitching) quick to respond. The yarn sets are GREAT, for the price and the existence of the start tabs on every skein (BEST idea EVER).

Crocheting is more than just a hobby for me. It is a stress reliever, a therapist, and a dopamine fix all rolled into one. Finding and being accepted into the Crochetree family is one of the best mile markers along this path of creativity I have found myself on. I am excited for all of the places we'll go.

I have always been crafty, I mainly cross-stitched for years but I worked with a fabulous woman named Patricia that crocheted and it was kinda mesmerizing to watch her make afghans. When I couldn't find the fingerless gloves I wanted, I bought some yarn and hooks and watched LOTS of YouTube videos and taught myself 😊 after many many tries, I had gloves. They were not the best but they were an inspiration. It was starting with a ball of yarn and ending up with something useful that inspired me.

I had a Pinterest board full of amigurumi but I kept psyching myself out because it looked really difficult, but my best friend is obsessed with KiKi and GiGi from KiKis Delivery Service so for his birthday last year I took the plunge and made them and that was all it took. A few months ago I was mindlessly scrolling Facebook and came across a suggestion ad for Crochetree, it was for Valentina and I fell head over heels and just had to make her.

The detail of Crochetree patterns is intimidating, but the patterns are so clearly detailed and explained that before you know it, you have accomplished what you didn't think you could. And they are very addictive lol. After one is finished, you are already ready to start the next one.

My advice is, don't let the details scare you, Crochetree makes it possible to create things beyond your own expectations. You guys help make Dreamweavers of us all 😊”
